Become a Member

The Nelson & District Women’s Centre is operated by the West Kootenay Women’s Association (WKWA), and your membership is with WKWA. The annual membership fee is on a sliding scale, from $20 to $100. You pay what you can afford.

Note that memberships run from one Annual General Meeting (AGM) to the next. AGM’s are generally held each fall, so if you are buying or renewing your membership at some other time, please prorate your fee. For example, if you are joining in March, you can choose to pay one-half of the annual fee. Then before the next AGM, you can buy an annual membership. This way, it’s easy to remember when your membership fees are due.

Because we know that not everyone is able to pay a monetary fee for membership, and because we are committed to being accessible to all, we also provide an option to become a member by volunteering at the Women’s Centre for four hours.

Who Can Become a Member?

Membership in WKWA is open to any woman or gender diverse individual interested in furthering and promoting the objectives of WKWA and who resides within the boundaries of the Regional District of Central Kootenay or in the Trail-Rossland area, generally known as the West Kootenay. 

At this time we only have one category of voting membership, restricted to women and gender diverse individuals. However, we’re happy to receive donations from everyone!

What does Membership Give You?

• The opportunity to be a part of a diverse network of women
• Access to our extensive feminist library and other great community resources
• An invitation to and voting rights at our AGM, generally held each fall
• The knowledge you’re part of and supporting an important service and place for women

How to Become a Member

To become a member, follow the Canada Helps link. When you see the Fund drop-down menu, be sure to click on “membership” to ensure your donation is applied to your membership fee.

If you’re not comfortable making on-line payments, you can also send us a cheque or cash, including the address where you live, and we will process your payment and issue an official tax receipt.  Please call the Women’s Centre at 250-352-9949 or email malia@nelsonwomenscentre.com and we will find a way to meet your needs.
