Take Back the Night is an international event and non-profit organization with the mission of ending sexual,
relationship, and domestic violence in all forms. Hundreds of events are held in over 30 countries annually since the
1970s. Events are intended as a protest and direct against rape and other forms of sexual, relationship and domestic
violence.
Join us in solidarity of safety for all women, and safety for our daughters

In Nelson the event will go down like this:

at 5:30 pm on October 27 we will circle beside Sidewinders Coffee shop on Hall Street. All genders welcomed.  The intention is to hold space together for the fact that violence against women still happens, and allow women (mainly, although men can speak too) to speak about that fact, and what it is like to live in a rape culture.  The men will be asked to witness that, and validate that experience if possible.

We will sing together, then the women will “take back the night” by marching/walking/dancing in the streets.

The men will stay behind, witnessing and supporting, perhaps singing or drumming.  The men will welcome the women back when they return.

All genders will gather again, perhaps for a song, or simply some informal sharing.
